The East Boston flag was designed by East Boston artist Joseph Porzio at the request of the East Boston Recreation, Master Planning, Land Use Advisory Council. The ship on the flag is the Flying Cloud clipper ship built by master shipbuilder, Donald McKay. The 5 stars underneath the Flying Cloud represent the original 5 islands and 1637 is the year East Boston was annexed to the City of Boston.
